Soil Compaction

Soil compaction is the increase of bulk density or decrease in porosity of soil due to externally or internally applied loads. Compaction can affect a lot of the physical, chemical and biological properties and functions of soil. Soil compaction can occur from a high volume of pedestrian, vehicular traffic or construction machinery. Compaction can lead to the crusting of the soil surface and develop a water-repellant which inhibits water penetration.
